Privacy
Markdown Peek is private by design. It is a viewer that runs entirely on your Mac, collects nothing, and never sends your files anywhere.
It collects no data
Markdown Peek collects no data at all. No analytics, no telemetry, no usage tracking, and no advertising identifiers. There are no accounts and no sign-in, so there is nothing to profile and nothing to leak.
It stays off the network by default
Your files are read and rendered entirely on your Mac, so nothing you open is uploaded, synced, or sent to us or anyone else. The one thing that can reach the internet is an image a document links to, and those are off by default: they load only if you choose to show them, only over https, and IT can lock them off with MDM.
It runs in the App Sandbox
Markdown Peek runs in Apple's App Sandbox, the same isolation every Mac App Store app uses. It can only reach the files you open or drop onto it, nothing else on your Mac.
Nothing in a document can run
Documents render under a strict, deny-by-default content policy with page scripts turned off, so nothing embedded in a Markdown file can run code or phone home. The one exception is the built-in Mermaid renderer, offline, and only in documents that contain a diagram. Code colors and math are drawn before the page is shown, and the app's own small helpers, like the copy button, run apart from the document, where it cannot reach them.
Your files are never changed
As a viewer, Markdown Peek does not change the files you open. The one time it writes anything is when you choose Save as PDF with Command-P, and then only to the file and location you pick.
About this website
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not follow you across other sites. None of this touches the app, which still collects nothing.
For IT and security review
The short version your security team can paste into a review:
- Distributed only through the Mac App Store, where Apple reviews every release.
- Sandboxed with the App Sandbox, with file access limited to what the user opens.
- Makes no network connections of its own, and no data leaves the device. Images from the web are off by default and can be force-blocked with the BlockRemoteImages MDM key.
- The rendered document runs under a deny-by-default Content Security Policy with page scripts off. The only script a document can run is the bundled, offline Mermaid renderer, and only when it contains a diagram. Syntax highlighting and math are pre-rendered, and the app's own helpers (code copy button, table-of-contents highlight) run in an isolated script world the document cannot reach.
- No accounts, no telemetry, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs.
- The only write is a user-initiated Save as PDF, to a file the user chooses.
